A Hundred Small Mercies

[Verse 1]
You held the door when the rain came sideways
I caught your coat on a splintered gate
Small acts travel like ink through water
Changing the map before we name the place

[Pre-Chorus]
A careful word can alter the measure
A gentler hand can steady the frame

[Chorus]
We make the world more kind, one turn at a time
Step off the line, meet you halfway in the rhyme
We make the world more kind, let the hard edges bend
A hundred small mercies, and the pattern can mend

[Verse 2]
At the bus stop, you gave up your place
The old man laughed, the whole queue unclenched
No grand parade, just a hinge in the day
A rusted gate swinging open again

[Pre-Chorus]
A careful word can alter the measure
A gentler hand can steady the frame

[Chorus]
We make the world more kind, one turn at a time
Step off the line, meet you halfway in the rhyme
We make the world more kind, let the hard edges bend
A hundred small mercies, and the pattern can mend

[Bridge]
Like a loom with a loosened thread
We cross, we pass, we weave instead

[Final Chorus]
We make the world more kind, one turn at a time
Step off the line, meet you halfway in the rhyme
We make the world more kind, let the hard edges bend
A hundred small mercies, and the pattern can mend
