Cracked Astrolabe

[Verse 1]
I kept a cracked astrolabe
In the drawer beneath the maps
Its brass rim bent, its glass gone cloudy
Still it pointed through the gaps
I tried to polish every fracture
Till the markings disappeared
Then I turned it toward the morning
And the far side grew more clear

[Chorus]
I am not a perfect compass
I can still choose where I go
Cracks catch light and bend the bearing
Make a route I didn’t know
(Find the way!) (Find the way!)
I keep moving, I keep moving
Toward the unmade day

[Verse 2]
Every flaw a crooked meridian
Every scar a measured turn
Not a map of where I failed at
But a chart of what I learned
You can take the seat beside me
We’ll read north a different way
No two needles point alike
And both can meet the day

[Bridge]
Turn the brass
Tilt the glass
Let the fault-line mark the pass
Step by step
Past the known
I can carry what I own

[Chorus]
I am not a perfect compass
I can still choose where I go
Cracks catch light and bend the bearing
Make a route I didn’t know
(Find the way!) (Find the way!)
I keep moving, I keep moving
Toward the unmade day

[Outro]
Not repaired into somebody else
I’m the instrument I made
