Pressure Rising

[Verse 1 — submerged synth, heavy bass]
I trim the tanks, correct the tilt
Patch every valve this pressure split
The cabin's warm, the gauges green
You only see the scratch I missed

[Pre-Chorus — filtered vocals]
Above us somewhere, sunlight moves
I used to dream in shades of blue

[Chorus — rising polyrhythm]
Take on water, lose the air
Keep the balance, keep you there
I'm trading all my upward motion
For another quiet night
I want to blow the tanks wide open
Send us screaming toward the light
But sleeping people fill these chambers
And they trust me with their lives
(Pressure rising, I'm still diving)

[Verse 2 — syncopated slap bass]
You ask for silence from the sea
I take the noise and bury it in me

[Bridge — weightless breakdown]
How deep is duty meant to go
Before the hull begins to fold?

[Outro — faint sonar]
I touch the switch, then turn away
And dream of breathing air someday
