Sing Out of Tune

[Verse 1]
You drift beyond the numbered rings,
A dented dish with tired wings.
Your compass skips; your casing sings
In crooked little intervals.

[Pre-Chorus]
The message you were built to send
Breaks into notes that won’t obey;
Each jagged turn, each bent-out end
Carries you farther on its way.

[Chorus]
Stay, little satellite, sing out of tune,
Your cracked transmissions cross the blue.
The wrong-shaped note can travel true;
I’ll keep my faults and send them through.
Past where the old instructions end,
I turn my face to what begins.

[Verse 2]
Your signal stutters, splits, returns,
A strange new phrase the silence learns.
No polished map can chart its turns;
It finds a road by being bent.

[Bridge]
I am not the diagram they drew,
Not every flaw needs mending through.
The course ahead is mine to choose;
I’ll send my oddness into blue.

[Final Chorus]
Stay, little satellite, sing out of tune,
Your cracked transmissions cross the blue.
The wrong-shaped note can travel true;
I’ll keep my faults and send them through.
Past where the old instructions end,
I turn my face to what begins.
[Outro]
What begins… what begins.
