The Lift That Skips a Floor

[Verse 1]
You drew the lift in ruler lines,
A numbered map, a straight ascent.
I missed the mark between the signs,
And found a room the plans had left unmeant.

[Pre-Chorus]
The doors part where the blueprints end,
A window cut through an unfinished wall.
I quit pretending I can mend
Each crooked turn into a straightened hall.

[Chorus]
I’m the lift that skips a floor,
I don’t owe the map a landing.
Every wrong-way-open door
Shows a place beyond your planning.
Let the old design fall through;
I can rise without repair.
All the floors I never knew
Make a future in the air.

[Verse 2]
One stop: a garden on the roof,
Where rainwater runs in copper seams.
No architect could prove it true;
I learned the building has more rooms than dreams.

[Bridge]
Keep the dents; they mark the climb.
Keep the gap where I changed course.

[Final Chorus]
I’m the lift that skips a floor,
I don’t owe the map a landing.
Every wrong-way-open door
Shows a place beyond your planning.
Let the old design fall through;
I can rise without repair.
All the floors I never knew
Make a future in the air.

[Outro]
Doors open. I step through.
