The Mug is Yours

[Verse 1]
You left your blue mug by the sink,
The chipped one with the painted wren.
I kept it there a week too long,
As if small things could bargain with the end.

[Pre-Chorus]
Our roads are turning, yours and mine;
I know the bend is coming soon.
Just don’t let distance edit out
The truth we made between those rooms.

[Chorus]
This mattered, even if it couldn’t stay.
You changed the shape of ordinary days.
When our two lives divide and carry on,
Please keep the thread, don’t say it all was gone.
I’ll hold the good without asking you to stay;
This mattered, and it still does, either way.

[Verse 2]
You taught me how to wait and listen,
I showed you where the spare key hid.
No promise can outlast the seasons;
Still, I’m grateful for the life we lived.

[Half-Time Bridge]
If you remember, let it be gently.
I won’t turn love into a chain.
Take what was kind; I’ll take what changed me.
We were real, though we couldn’t remain.

[Final Chorus]
This mattered, even if it couldn’t stay.
You changed the shape of ordinary days.
When our two lives divide and carry on,
Please keep the thread, don’t say it all was gone.
I’ll hold the good, and let you find your way;
This mattered, and it still does, either way.

[Outro]
The mug is yours. The memory’s ours.
Go well. I’ll keep the good we gave.
