Odd-Shaped Piece

[Verse 1]
I keep a paper moon inside my coat
A pocket full of plans that miss the boat
You ask me why I color past the lines
I say the margins make a better sky

[Pre-Chorus]
I tried to fold my corners flat
But every crease just sprang right back

[Chorus]
I’m proud to be the odd-shaped piece
The crooked note that finds its key
Too strange to fit, too full to hide
I make a world from the outside
So let me be my curious kind
With paint on hands and sparks in mind

[Verse 2]
I name the cracks in sidewalks after birds
Build little engines out of broken words
You call it chaos; I call it a door
A way to find what wasn’t there before

[Chorus]
I’m proud to be the odd-shaped piece
The crooked note that finds its key
Too strange to fit, too full to hide
I make a world from the outside

[Breakdown]
If I don’t match, I’m not misplaced
I’m making room for a different shape

[Final Chorus]
I’m proud to be the odd-shaped piece
The crooked note that finds its key
Too strange to fit, too full to hide
I make a world from the outside
No borrowed shape, no shrinking small
My strange bright mind can hold it all
