The Basement Button

[Verse — IDM, 9/8]
First floor, sugar on my tongue
Second floor, a shopping run
Third floor, someone holding me
For half a breath, I'm finally free

[Pre-Chorus]
The numbers glow, the doors unfold
I swear this ride won't end below

[Chorus — melodic prog]
Going up! (Going down!)
A thousand floors above the ground
Every button promises
To mend the little things I miss
But every ride returns me here
To the empty floor I fear
(Ding, ding, going down)

[Verse 2 — syncopated bass]
I tell myself I'll take the stairs
But there's a button waiting there

[Outro — whispered]
The basement opens, cold and wide
I press the button one more time
