My loops

Saved in this browser only. Each save keeps the pattern, tempo, loop length and every kit setting.

Synthesized kit

Every sound is generated in your browser, so the kit is free of sample licenses.

Kick

Pitched sine with a falling pitch envelope

Snare

Noise burst over a short tone

Hi-hat

High-passed noise

Tom

Pitched sine with a gentle drop

Step sequencer

1 to 4 bars, 16 steps per bar. Each click cycles a step through off, on and accent.

Export

Render the loop up to ten times in a row as one 44.1 kHz, 16-bit stereo WAV.

How it works

Four synthesized drums and a 64-step grid

Shape the kit

  • Kick: pitched sine with tune, decay and pitch-envelope punch
  • Snare: white noise over a tuned tone with tune, decay and snappy balance
  • Hi-hat: high-passed noise with tone and decay
  • Tom: pitched sine with tune and decay
  • Level for every instrument

Program the pattern

  • 1 to 4 bars of 16 steps in 4/4
  • 40 to 240 BPM
  • Every step cycles off, on and accent
  • Pattern presets for four on the floor, backbeat, breakbeat and half-time
  • Save loops to a library in this browser, load them later and back the library up as a JSON file

Start from a preset, then change single steps. Clicking a step while stopped plays that drum so you can hear the accent.

Export

  • WAV: 44.1 kHz, 16-bit stereo, the loop repeated 1 to 10 times

The file length is exact for the tempo, so it lines up with the grid when you drop it into a DAW.

Common questions

Short answers

Are the drum sounds free to use?

Yes. Nothing is sampled. Every hit is synthesized from oscillators and noise in your browser when you play or export, so there is no sample library or license attached to the sound.

How long is the exported loop?

Choose a loop length of 1 to 4 bars of 4/4. The WAV repeats the loop 1 to 10 times, so a 4-bar loop at 120 BPM lasts 8 seconds per repeat and 80 seconds at ten repeats.

What does an accent do?

Each step cycles through off, on and accent. Accented steps play at full velocity and normal steps play softer, which keeps a hi-hat line from sounding mechanical.

Why do I need to press Start audio?

Browsers, and Safari on iPhone and iPad in particular, only allow sound after a tap or click. The first button you press starts the audio engine.

Does anything get uploaded?

No. Playback and rendering happen entirely in this browser. Your current pattern and any loops you save to My loops are kept in local storage on this device. Download a library backup to move them to another browser.

What does the tail option do?

Wrap folds the decay of the final hits back onto the start, so the file is exactly the loop length and repeats without a click. Cut drops the tail. Keep leaves it on the end.
