Forty Plates

[Verse 1]
Forty chairs in a candlelit row
Forty plates with the things that you know
Every seat has your name on a card
Every feast says, “Come as you are”

[Pre-Chorus]
But the room keeps turning around
One set of hands, one place to sit down

[Chorus]
Forty ways, forty plates
One you, one choice, one place
All those doors, all that gold
Pick one table, let the rest go
Forty ways, forty plates
One you, one choice, one place
Take your seat, let the moment begin
You can’t be everyone—come on in

[Verse 2]
There’s a coat for the life you could lead
There’s a cup for each wish and each need
You keep counting the forks in the light
While your dinner goes cold for the night

[Pre-Chorus]
The room keeps turning around
One set of hands, one place to sit down

[Chorus]
Forty ways, forty plates
One you, one choice, one place
All those doors, all that gold
Pick one table, let the rest go
Forty ways, forty plates
One you, one choice, one place
Take your seat, let the moment begin
You can’t be everyone—come on in

[Bridge]
Let the empty chairs stay empty
Let the untouched courses wait
There’s a life beneath your fingers
There’s a hand upon the plate

[Final Chorus]
Forty ways, forty plates
One you, one choice, one place
All those doors, all that gold
Pick one table, let the rest go
Forty ways, forty plates
One you, one choice, one place
Take your seat, let the moment begin
You can’t be everyone—come on in

[Outro]
One you, one choice, one place
