Kindness Is a Door Held Wide

[Verse 1]
You left your coat on the back of my chair
Rain on the cuffs, cold hands in your hair
I had a sharp word already prepared
Then saw you were tired, and let it stay there

I passed you the mug with the chipped blue rim
You told me the truth; I listened through it
No perfect answer, no clever defense
Just room for the hurt to loosen its grip

[Pre-Chorus]
A softer hand can stop the fall
A little patience makes room for it all

[Chorus]
Kindness is a door held wide
Empathy, the step inside
Forgiveness doesn’t say it’s fine
It gives tomorrow a place to start
I can meet you where you are
You can meet me with an open heart

[Verse 2]
You missed my call on the night I was scared
I made up a story and carried it there
Next morning you came with the truth in your eyes
I heard what you meant, not just how it arrived

We set down the blame like a bag on the floor
There’s more to us than the worst thing we said
I won’t erase what the hurt put us through
I’ll choose what I do with the days still ahead

[Pre-Chorus]
A softer hand can stop the fall
A little patience makes room for it all

[Chorus]
Kindness is a door held wide
Empathy, the step inside
Forgiveness doesn’t say it’s fine
It gives tomorrow a place to start
I can meet you where you are
You can meet me with an open heart

[Bridge]
Not every wound is mended in a day
Some need the truth, some need a little space
But when you’re ready, I will hear you through
And when I stumble, I’ll make room for you

[Final Chorus]
Kindness is a door held wide
Empathy, the step inside
Forgiveness doesn’t say it’s fine
It gives tomorrow a place to start
I can meet you where you are
You can meet me with an open heart

Kindness is a door held wide
We can begin on the other side
