More Love Than I Can Spend

[Verse 1]
I carry more than one name
In the place where my tenderness starts
You hear me say “I love you”
And think I’ve divided my heart
But every bond has its own weather
Its own color, its own song
What I give to someone else
Doesn’t take from what’s been yours all along

[Pre-Chorus]
I wish you could feel it plainly
No contest, no keeping score
Love doesn’t empty when it travels
It gathers as it goes

[Chorus]
I have more love than I can spend
It doesn’t thin, it doesn’t end
I can love you, love them too
And still be wholly here with you
Nothing you mean gets smaller
When another heart is known
My love keeps widening its reach
Without letting yours go

[Verse 2]
Your laugh arrives in its own season
Their kindness has a different sound
I don’t confuse the two of you
Or trade one precious thing around
If I offer warmth to many
That doesn’t make your place less true
There are a thousand ways to care
And I have one that’s only yours, too

[Pre-Chorus]
I wish you’d trust the feeling
When I say your name with care
Love is not a single candle
That grows dim because it’s shared

[Chorus]
I have more love than I can spend
It doesn’t thin, it doesn’t end
I can love you, love them too
And still be wholly here with you
Nothing you mean gets smaller
When another heart is known
My love keeps widening its reach
Without letting yours go

[Bridge]
You are not one among a number
You are you, and that is everything
There’s no ranking in my devotion
Just a different truth in every bond

[Final Chorus]
I have more love than I can spend
It doesn’t thin, it doesn’t end
I can love you, love them too
And still be wholly here with you
Nothing you mean gets smaller
Every bond can be its own
My love keeps widening its reach
And yours remains my own

[Outro]
I love you—nothing less
I love them—nothing less
