Pick One

[Verse 1]
You lined the tubes in perfect rows
A hundred names for reds and golds
Your wrist hangs over paper-white
Like one small mark could end the light

[Pre-Chorus]
You say, “Not yet, the edge is clean”
While every color crowds the scene

[Chorus]
Pick one, pick one—let it run
Red in the blue, blue in the sun
One crooked line and the blank is gone
So paint it, paint it—carry on
Pick one, pick one—make it yours
Color spilling past the borders
The perfect white can’t tell you what
A living picture could become

[Verse 2]
You know the names of every shade
The brave vermilion, stormy jade
But all that knowing, neatly stored
Can’t make a picture on its own

[Pre-Chorus]
Your hand is shaking, still it’s yours
The page won’t stay untouched much more

[Chorus]
Pick one, pick one—let it run
Red in the blue, blue in the sun
One crooked line and the blank is gone
So paint it, paint it—carry on
Pick one, pick one—make it yours
Color spilling past the borders
The perfect white can’t tell you what
A living picture could become

[Bridge]
A first mark isn’t the whole design
It’s just a door you draw in time
Let the yellow cross the gray
Let the careful page give way

[Final Chorus]
Pick one, pick one—let it run
Red in the blue, blue in the sun
One crooked line and the blank is gone
So paint it, paint it—carry on
Pick one, pick one—make it yours
Color spilling past the borders
The perfect white can’t tell you what
A living picture could become

[Outro]
Pick one—let it run
Pick one—make it yours
