Sock Drying

[Verse 1]
Basket by the sink
One more shirt to hang
Blue jeans heavy from the wash
Drip-drip on the tiles again

I shake them out
Give the sleeves a spin
The window's open just a crack
Still the air won't let them in

[Pre-Chorus]
I wait and I wait
By the folding chair
Your sweater takes its sweet time
Dangling in the air

[Chorus]
Come on, dry now
Dry now, dry now
I need you ready by sundown
Come on, dry now
Dry now, dry now
I’m pacing circles around the house

[Verse 2]
Tea towel on the line
Pillowcase in the sun
Little white socks in a row
Looking like they want to run

I pin the cuffs up high
Clip the collar tight
But every time I check them out
They still feel cold and slight

[Pre-Chorus]
I wait and I wait
By the folding chair
Your sweater takes its sweet time
Dangling in the air

[Chorus]
Come on, dry now
Dry now, dry now
I need you ready by sundown
Come on, dry now
Dry now, dry now
I’m pacing circles around the house

[Bridge]
Maybe it’s the rain
Maybe it’s the day
Maybe everything I own
Needs a little more space

So I fan the shirts
And I open wide the door
Even slow things find their way
To something better than before

[Chorus]
Come on, dry now
Dry now, dry now
I need you ready by sundown
Come on, dry now
Dry now, dry now
I’m pacing circles around the house
