[Intro: cracked music box, distant applause, whispered vocal 🕯️] They call me an angel. They never met me in love. [Verse 1: Noir Jazz, upright bass, smoky piano 🥀] I remember every birthday. I ask how your mother’s been. I carry strangers through the storm And wear the kindest grin. I make the lonely feel important. I make the frightened feel believed. I have mastered being heaven For everyone I’ll never need. They praise my patient nature. They say my heart is gold. But angels look convincing When the lighting is controlled. Nobody sees the feathers Scattered underneath my bed, Or hears the names of those who loved me Still revolving in my head. [Pre-Chorus: Dark Art Pop, pulse accelerating 🫀] I never wanted bodies. I wanted to be chosen. Another heart said, “You are everything,” Another door swung open. [Chorus: Seductive Disco, glittering synths, sinister bass 🪩] Look at my halo, Polished and bright. I’m everyone’s angel Until they love me at night. I give them forever To feel it begin, Then hunger for somebody Who hasn’t loved me yet to let me in. Look at my halo. Look underneath. Every golden circle Is a halo made of teeth. I never mean to ruin them. I only need the proof. Then I feast upon devotion And go searching for the truth. [Verse 2: Minimal Trip-Hop, fractured vocal echoes 🌒] I know exactly what to say When someone starts to fall. I build a private universe And make them feel like all The roads that broke behind us Were designed to make us meet. Then intimacy ripens, And I panic at the sweetness. I call my distance freedom. I call my damage fate. I leave before their questions Turn the mirror toward my face. Yet every heart remembers What my appetite forgets. I survive on fresh beginnings. They inherit all the debts. [Genre Shift: Industrial Post-Hardcore, alarms, crushing guitars ⚠️] I AM THE MONSTER I KEPT EXPLAINING AWAY! NOT BORN IN A FIRE, BUT BUILT DAY AFTER DAY! One broken promise, One beautiful lie, One “I need space” While another waits nearby! [Breakdown: mechanical heartbeat, screamed backing vocals] LOVE ME! DON’T KNOW ME! NEED ME! DON’T HOLD ME! CROWN ME! CONSOLE ME! LEAVE BEFORE YOU OWN ME! [Music collapses into silence] [Spoken, trembling] I was not confused every time. Sometimes I knew. Sometimes I chose myself And called the wreckage truth. [Bridge: Gothic Gospel, organ and dissonant choir ⛪] Acceptance is not innocence. A name does not absolve. Calling myself a monster Doesn’t mean I cannot evolve. I cannot heal their wounds By performing my regret. But I can stop creating New ghosts I won’t forget. [Choir, slowly harmonizing] Take off the halo. Put down the disguise. Mercy without honesty Is cruelty dressed in white. [Final Chorus: Cinematic Art Rock, massive drums, choir 🔥] Here is my halo. Here are the teeth. Here are all the tender hearts That fell beneath. I was everyone’s angel, But their beautiful disease. They loved me without limits. I loved being what they needed me to be. I accept the monster, But I will not build its throne. I’ll learn to bear the silence When I’m unwanted and alone. If love arrives tomorrow, I won’t consume it to feel whole. I’ll offer it a human, Not an angel with a hole. [Outro: bare piano, music box slowing 🕊️] No horns. No wings. No audience to deceive. Just the monster and the mirror, And the choice of what I feed. [Final whisper] They called me an angel. Now I will try to become a person.
